We can’t help but sing the Beastie Boys’ ‘She’s Crafty’ in our heads whenever we think of this part of Doorstep Dishes. The song has nothing to do with crafts of course, but nevertheless, it’s the unofficial soundtrack to this section.
We’re not ‘crafters’ per se (we have mad respect for folks who are), but we are artsy, we love color and texture and all things vintage. We also love to upcycle, recycle and pass along anything of quality – why throw it away? We grew up on different coasts, but spent our youth in our respective cities (Philly & Oakland) scouring thrift shops and vintage stores for fun clothes and accessories. This hobby has continued to our adulthood, but now we find ourselves hunting for housewares, ribbons, fabric, old post cards, flashcards – anything cool and worthy of a new life after the garage sale.
In this section you’ll hear about our finds, how we reuse everyday objects to make gift tags or wrapping and some cool ideas we’ve come up with to embellish the tasty gifts we make. You’ll also see things from some of our friends who do this too, either for a living or just because they have an incredible eye or incredible luck at the flea market.
